Collaborative Practice During COVID-19

Many of us – at least those of us who have been fortunate enough to escape the worst impacts of COVID-19 – may have noticed that the pandemic has brought unexpected blessings. Precious new time with family, discovery of latent talents and hobbies, reveling in outdoor adventures, a deeper and more profound sense of gratitude and community. So it is for those of us who help families through the transition of divorce.

The difficulties posed by our traditional legal processes during this time – running the gamut from suspended access to courts to the joys of working from home – shine a bright spotlight on the benefits and advantages of Collaborative Practice. Detached from the court system, Collaborative divorces proceed at their own self-directed pace, regardless of courthouse shutdowns, delays, and procedural changes. Clients and professional team members participate together in virtual meetings from anywhere, offering comfort to clients in a time of stress. And professional teams are able to assemble and collaborate across Indiana, making Collaborative Practice available in communities where Collaborative Practice training is not yet widespread.

Today, every client in Indiana has the option to choose Collaborative Practice – a respectful, family-centered process that places their future in their hands.
